I’m not sure what everyone else has for roast dinner, but friends often seem disproportionately distressed on my behalf to learn I won’t be having roast potatoes with mine! It’s nigh on impossible to explain how your tastes change, eating this way, but suffice it to say this former favourite pretty much tastes like bland stodge to me now. Hey, I’m as shocked as you are…
Still, taking that 5% of the average roast dinner away, here’s what we had for our festive meal today!

Clockwise from top: roast chicken breast; sausage, sage and onion stuffing; sprouts with chestnuts; asparagus, carrots, and leeks baked in honey and mustard sauce; pureed slow-roasted sweet potato.
So you see, we’re not exactly suffering here! To make it extra festive, I served this with a sauce dish each of cranberry sauce and breadless bread sauce.
Perfect end to an unexpectedly lovely day.
